North Edison scored 4 times in the 1st 2 innings, including 3 runs that came in on a 3 run HR and they held on and prevented a late Westfield rally for a 6-5 win. Hopper Murray threw 4 strong innings for Westfield and Brett Robertshaw and Chris Rinaldi each pitched one inning.
Westfield scored their 1st run in the 2nd inning when Devin Anderson, who had led off the inning with a single, came around to score on an RBI single by Hopper Murray. They added 4 in the 3rd to take a 5-4 lead. Scott Tupper kept up his hot hitting with the 1st of 2 of his singles on the night and Michael Mobarakai followed with a single. Tommy Summers then hit a hard grounder up the middle and North Edison attempted a force out at 2nd, but Mobarakai had a great lead and a better jump and he beat the throw to 2nd allowing Westfield to load the bases with no out. Eric Varakian hit into an RBI fielder's choice and then Chris Rinaldi drove in Summers with his 2nd single of the day. Varakian and Rinaldi each ended up advancing to 3rd base and scoring on a passed balls.
Westfield could not manage another run the rest of the way and North Edison put two runs on the board in the 5th to take a 6-5 lead which they did not relinquish.
Westfield plays Cranford next on Friday at Gumbert Field #3 at 6PM.
