Boro Bombers Strong in Scrimmage

Westfield White scrimmaged the Boro Bombers on Wednesday night. The Bombers are a strong AAU team out of Hillsborough, NJ and the scrimmage was set up to give both teams some extra work.

Westfield fell behind early when they allowed 5 runs in the 1st inning courtesy of 4 walks and two hits. The inning took place while a steady rain was falling and it appeared that the scrimmage might actually not make it beyond the 1st inning, but shortly after the inning ended the rain subsided and the sun began to shine. Michael Mobarakai took over pitching duties in the 2nd and shut down the Bomber's offense for the next 3 innings. Mobi was very effective and only allowed 2 base runners in 3 innings of work.

The Westfield White offense climbed back into the game in the 3rd when they plated 4 runs on 5 hits. The runs came via had back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles Tommy "Wheels" Summers, Eric "Bob" Varakian, Chris "Knucklehead" Rinaldi and Vin "Madman" Difilippo. Nick "Monster" Mele followed with a hard RBI ground out and then Devin "The Animal" Anderson singled in another run to close out the scoring in the inning.

Westfield scored a couple of more runs in the 5th to take 6-5 lead. Varakian continued his hot hitting with a line drive double down the right field line. Rinaldi drew a walk and then Mele knocked both runners home with a booming, 2 RBI triple to right center.

The Bombers came back in the bottom of the 5th and scored 5 runs to take the lead. The game ended with an extra half inning of work to allow the Bombers to get a 7th pitcher work and to give Westfield a few more chances to hit against live pitching in a game situation.
